Ribera and Velázquez: some early reflections
Valencian by birth but Italian by adoption, José de Ribera had a decisive influence on the artists of the early 17th century in Rome. The Prado Museum is holding its first exhibition on the early stage of this master who despite never returning to Spain, left his mark on our painters and also on Velázquez while he was based in Seville, as the author of the article points out.
