The Van Dyck from El Escorial rediscovered
After two centuries of oblivion in the storerooms of the Academy of St. Ferdinand in Madrid, where it had been catalogues as a copy, The Virgin and Child with the Pentinent Sinners has now been carefully restored. A study by Professor Días Padrón breathes new life into the masterpiece by Anton van Dyck that Velázquez used to decorate the ante-sacristy at the Monastery of El Escorial in 1656.
