Maíno, portrait painter
Although he was the drawing teacher of Philip IV and so appreciated by Velázquez, we now retain only about forty works by Juan Bautista Maíno. Leticia Ruiz, curator of the first exhibition organized of the artist, examines a lesser known facet of his work: portraits. The contributions that she makes to his catalog offer important new features and surprises about an artist who is increasingly valued.
