On poetry and painting: a portrait of Lope de Vega by Van der Hamen

In his recent work on the painter Juan Van der Hamen, William B. Jordan pointed out that “to find the portrait of Quevedo would be as important as (…) to identify the one that he painted of Lope de Vega.” The following article discovers the original effigy of ‘Phoenix of Wit’ painted by one of his best friends. It is quite an event for the history of the Spanish art as well as for its literature.
