The Sevillian Baroque splendour

Arte Información y Gestión presents important examples of Neapolitian, Colonial andSevillian old master paintings

Seville, 11/15/11

This 17 of November the most important bidding room in the city of the Guadalquivir river will organize sales of jewllery, painting and sculpture.

The first sale is led by impressive diamond necklaces, rings and earings, and also period pieces and great deal of coral lots such as the pair of Criolla earings that start at 950 euros. Besides a baroque pearl necklace with a starting price of 1.475 euros, the Sevillian firm will offer several wrist watches by Omega, Cartier Santos and Breitling with starting prices in the 500-3.000 euros range. But without a doubt, the entire repertoire will be eclipsed by the set of diamond and ruby necklace and earings with a total diamond weight of 18,15 cts and ruby weight of 26,20 cts.

Old master painting, preceded by cute nineteenth century miniatures, drawings and historical and genre painting from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, presents important examples such as the exceptional composition scrupously studied by art historian Gianni Papi of Antiveduto Grammatica of the Virgin with the child and Saint Anne. It is a version of equal quality of the work house in Warsaw National Museum and other works in private collections such as the Ramon Serra de Algaza collection in Valencia. From 1613-1616 for Gianni Papi, this version is unique in that it includes architectural elements such as columns and walls which explain the extra 20 centimetres in width from the rest. It has a fantastic starting price of 45.000 euros.

Equally interesting is the work The Virgin and Saint Peter surrounded by angels by Giovanni Battista Benaschi with a starting price 36.000 euros. With his usual mastery for conffering movement and rythem to any compositon, Lanfranco's disciple imitates his master in the use of cold toned colors such as violet, blue and silvery gray. And lastly a typical composition by Francesco Bassano of the Annunciation of the shepperds brings Italian painting full circle.

Seventeenth century naturalist painting continues where Italian art left off with an exquisite Child Jesus asleep by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. One of the few important works by teh Sevillian master still in private hands, it comes from the Osuna collection and has been dated in 1660, it has a starting price equivilant to its interest and authorship of 360.000 euros. More surprising is the canvas of a version of the Adoration of the shepperds by an unknown hand but which over time has been attributed to Velázquez, Alonso Cano, Zurbarán or Murillo, among others. The work of 199 x 144 centimetres is a variant of the work in the National Gallery and of the work in the Hospital del Pozo in Seville, and in spite of being slightly damaged will surpass its starting price of 50.000 euros without any difficulty.

Other Spanish old masters, such as the still life by Bartolomé Pérez starting at 30.000 euros, will give way to compositions of historical importance such as the pair of oils by Fernando Marín Chaves which start off in 125.000 euros each. The ample views of Granada and Chiclana de la Frontera are of specialy important for inluding the figure of the Count of Maule. The writer, still very much unknown for his unusual depiction and transmission of important herietage and art facts, is presented wearing a hat next to the painter taking notes.

Finally big names in Andalucia's Contemporay art scene such as Enrique brinkmann, José Antonio García, Ruíz Rogelio López Cuenca and Manuel Salinas will complete the wide array of lots on offer at the Sevillian bidding room which this November with a handfull of noticeable works has aroused more interest than any other auction in the country.Alfonso Carbajo Agrasar
