Pipilotti Rist's colours at the Fundació Joan Miró
The Swiss artist presents the largest exhibition of her work in Spain, from July 8 through November 1.
The work by the renowned Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist will be on show at the Foundation Joan Miró in Barcelona from July 8. The exhibition, titled Friendly Game – Electronic Feelings, is the largest exhibition of her work in Spain. It spans the artist’s career and features thirteen installations, ten of which will be shown at the Fundació Joan Miró while the other three will be hosted by the Centre Cultural de Caixa Girona.
Two works have been expressly created for this exhibition; Doble Llum (Double Light) and Temps lliure (Free Time). Double light will be shown for the first time at the Fundació and will become part of its collection thanks to the donation by the collector Han Nefkens. It brings about a dialogue between Rist and Joan Miró through the projection of a video onto Femme, a 1968 Miró’s sculpture owned by the Foundation. The other work, Temps lliure, was also created for this occasion; it represents a forest of words which, according to the artist ‘clears the viewer’s mind’.
Both pieces were titled in Catalan, since it is the artist’s practice to name her works in the language of the country where they have been exhibited for the first time.
Pipilotti Rist (Grabs, Switzerland, 1962) is one of the most renowned video artists on the international scene. Her real name is Elisabeth Charlotte Rist, but since her childhood she has been nicknamed Pippilotti, in reference to Astrid Lindgren’s novel Pipi Longstocking. Her video works tackle issues related to gender, sexuality and human body. She uses colourful images full of vitality. The majority of her works are super 8 films and video installations.
Rist has shown her work in the most important museums worldwide and her pieces have become part of the major contemporary art collections. She lives and works between Zurich and Los Angeles.
