Focus-Abengoa exhibits the selection of works running for its painting prize
There are 34 in total, among the finalists and teh prized artists, which will go on to become part of their Contemporary art collection
Of the 586 works which were presented in this XXVII edition, the jury has selected 34, "all of them of great quality and excellent technique", as it was announced in the broadcast. They have gone on to cover the walls of the exhibition hall of the Hospital de los Venerables, in Seville, where the foundation is based. The president, José B. Terceiro presided the inauguration.
A special place has been reserved for the winner. An oil on canvas -180 x 200- by the artist Miguel Galana, baptized Népliget. Next to it are the works by Ismael Iglesias Serrano and Alvar Haro Sánchez prized respectivelly with a consolation prize. All of them will go on to be part of the art collection of Contemporary painting, scultpure and graphic works of the institution, which already houses works by such well known figures as Antonio López Botero, Carmen Laffón or Gustavo Torner.
This prize, instituted 28 years ago, is one of the most prestigious inside the art world not only in Spain but beyond its borders. Its jury, which is renewed in each passing edition, was in this case intigrated by prestigious people such as uan Carrete Parrondo, Estrella de Diego, Guillermo Pérez Villalta, Jaime Brihuega, Juan Manuel Bonet and Juan Fernández Lacomba.
Miguel Galano studied in the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. He has done solo exhibitions since 1997 for galleries in several Spanish and foreign cities. His paintings hang in the Jovellanos museum and the Príncipe de Asturas foundation. He was also the winner of the first prize of the second edition of painting awards hosted by the Junta General of the Principality of Asturias.
