CPhoto Posed/ Non posed
IvoryPress, in its third edition of its collection CPhoto, covers the tension between the author and the photographical subject
The title- Posed/Not posed- reflects the content of the book well, which through the work by 13 artists, shows the tension that always exists between the autjor and his subject. "A relentless tension which remains in time"- stated Elena Foster, founder of IvoryPress and editor of the volume. "Tension between the absolute spontaneity and the absence of pose, on one hand, and a desire to achieve a perfection in pose on the other". That is why it is so unimportant if teh photographer is a professional, an amateur or a paparazzo, because the tension is there.
Tobia Bezzola, curator of the Kunsthaus of Zürich and on this ocassion invited editor, has been in charge of the selection of the 13 photographers. The majority of these artists are well known: Slim Aarons, Thomas Struth, Pawel Jaszczuk, Gary Winogrand, Edward Quinn... All of them are represented with 10 images. Several instant shots from the archive of the Los Angeles Police Department, such as the one on teh cover. She is a woman victim of a sexual harrasment, taken by Babbit in 1947. There is something more: the essay by the Netherlandish Connie Palmen, entitled"I love photographs". A slightly spooky tale of the death of her husband, the politician Hans van Mierlo and the photographs which one of her children took while she remained lying embraced to her husband, "Her head curled up between her bossom and her shoulder", shortly before she died.
This book is the third of the new cycle Cphoto which began in 2005. The other two were Genesis, with the first projects of 10 photographers of reknown acclaim, and The Authentic Venice, in which 14 photographers intervened to show their personal vision of this city. In the first cycle, from 2005 to 2010, ten issues of C International Photo magazine were published, which resulted in a complete collection of Contemporary photography.
