Scale Architecture at MAXXI

The Museo Nazionale delle arti del XXI secole shows 80 models of architectural projects on their own collection

Rome, 08/08/12

Some of the projects that have marked the history of Italian architecture of the twentieth century to the present are presented these days in the MAXXI. Something unusual in the exhibitions scenario that, however, brings the scale architecture to a better understanding and valuation of design and realization of the idea in the complex technical surrounding of the genesis of an architectural project.

In the exhibition are two models of the Congress Palace in Rome designed by Massimiliano Fuksas - author of the section Spaces of the latest issue of ARS Magazine -;  the Corviale model by Mario Fiorentino; the project of Parabita Cemetery in Lecce and Testaccio residences in Rome by Alessandro Anselmi; the headquarters of the Medical College in Rome and the Church of the Holy Face by Piero Sartogo; or the compact city model of Franco Purini and the model for the Valley of the Temples designed by the Labyrinth Group.

Also included are some the models in the Aldo Rossi archive of the MAXXI, including the Deutsche Historisches Museum in Berlin, a monument to the Segrate's Resistance and all models from the Vittorio De Feo Archive. Exclusively, and for the first time, visitors can see the model of the Peugeot skyscraper in Buenos Aires, the Theatre of Cagliari and the Italian Pavilion at the International Expo Osaka'70 designed by the late Maurizio Sacripanti.

Modelli also includes a specific section devoted to the current virtual design with the introduction of 11 digital projects by Pier Luigi Nervi, a collaboration between the Centre MAXXI Archivi di Architettura and the Dipartamenti di Ingegneria Strutturale e Geotecnica dell'Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza. The exhibition is curated by Maristella Avila and Esmeralda Valente, and will be in Rome until April 2, 2013.
